This extensive renovation and construction addition to the current Career and Technical Education building adjacent to Decatur High School houses classes and labs for high school students as well as students enrolled at nearby DeVry University, Georgia Piedmont Technical College and a culinary school. RA-LIN delivered services under a design- build contract where the company teams with a design firm to create a collaborative environment in order to fast track the project from concept to completion. The renovation is RA-LIN’s sixth project for this high school.
The scope of the project included building expansions at the administration office and main entrance, a new elevator and enclosed exterior stair tower, complete interior wall reconfiguration, renovated and expanded restrooms, new interior and exterior signage and data backbone for all classrooms. Facilities included a graphics communications classroom, broadcast/video labs, a small business development classroom, an ROTC area, an architectural drawing and design lab, a culinary arts lab and classroom, a nursing /healthcare learning lab and classroom, and any early childhood education facility. RA-LIN self-performed all concrete, masonry and carpentry work to further streamline and expedite project completion.
Exterior site work included the use of bio swales, storm water runoff conveyance systems that provide an alternative to storm sewers and improve water quality by natural water filtration as well as recycled concrete and previous paving to further aid in storm water management. Sustainable design and construction methods were incorporated throughout the project where practical.
