RA-LIN has begun construction of a complete phased replacement of Coosa High School in Floyd County, Georgia. This is the third replacement high school that RA-LIN has built for Floyd County under a Construction Manager @ Risk contract. The project budget is $35 million.
The school building will be a steel frame structure with concrete masonry unit infill combining brick with masonry accents. Construction of the main building, which will be in front of the current Coosa High, has begun and is scheduled for occupancy by January 2016. This new academic building will include instructional areas designed around a central commons area in the center, a cafeteria and a media center.
Demolition of the existing school will occur in January and February of 2016 and construction will begin on a new fine arts building and a stand-alone gymnasium. The schedule calls for completion of these buildings plus connections between all buildings and new parking lots by January of 2017.
The safety planning and monitoring for an occupied campus project of this magnitude is one of RA-LIN’s strengths. We very carefully plan the material delivery traffic flows and the debris removal routes and timing to cause the least disruption to the campus and to the surrounding community.
