Ben Garrett – President
Ben Garrett began his career at RA-LIN as a part time worker in the summer of 1984. After high school, he attended Auburn University on an Air Force ROTC Scholarship and earned a civil engineering degree. In August of 1991, he returned to RA-LIN as an assistant project manager and has held increasingly responsible positions in various departments of the company until his appointment as President in 2005. Ben is an accomplished leader with deep practical experience combined with outstanding engineering and construction management skills.
Bernie Buchanan – Vice President
Bernie joined RA-LIN in 1997 with an array of construction achievements in varying markets to his credit. His responsibilities include corporate oversight of Pre-construction activities relating to operations, business development, scheduling, and estimating. He is also responsible for setting the overall direction of Quality Assurance/Control and ensuring consistency in its delivery to RA-LIN customers and clients.
Tres Jernigan – Vice President of Commercial Group
Tres Jernigan, a professional engineer with over 18 years of building experience, serves as vice president of the company’s Commercial Group comprised of industrial and large manufacturing, healthcare and hospitality segments of the construction marketplace. Tres guides and oversee all commercial construction aspects of the company’s projects throughout the Southeast. Jernigan holds a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Engineering Honors Society and Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity. He is licensed as a Professional Engineer by the National Society of Professional Engineering.
Derek Smith – Vice President of Education Division
Derek Smith is leader of RA-LIN’s Educational Division. Smith received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. Joining RA-LIN in 2004, he brought with him 14 years of extensive construction industry experience. His concentration focuses on new educational projects and strives to build on our considerable strengths in this market. About 90% of RA-LIN’s educational customers have contracted with us more than once, so Derek’s responsibility is to oversee, maintain and expand that division.
Brian Fritts – Operations Manager of Education Division
Fritts, a veteran at RA-LIN veteran for over a decade, holds a BS in Construction Management from Southern Polytechnic State University. His most recent educational facility project is the occupied school campus replacement of the 177,482 SF, $32 million Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia. Current projects include the new 200,884 SF, $49 million Spencer High School joint venture project in Columbus, GA. The construction phasing and logistics planning required to safely execute projects of this scale, while students are present, is a proven skill of RA-LIN operations. The company is renowned for its safety track record of phased building, demolition and on-time completion while students and faculty continue to occupy a campus.
Jay Grubbs – Vice President of Alabama Operations
As an employee with RA-LIN for over 13 years, Jay Grubbs has served as the Project Manager for more than $135 million in public and private construction projects. As manager of the company’s business development and marketing department beginning 2010, he also became responsibility for Alabama operations in our Oxford, Alabama office. As a native of Cleburne County, Alabama and holding a B.S. in Building Science from Auburn University and an M.B.A. from the University of West Georgia, Grubbs has successfully completed the Associated General Contractors Leaders Course and the Cleburne County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Cleburne program. Jay and his wife Kellie reside in Heflin, Alabama with their three children.
